Everyone remembers The Lego Movie, right? The 2014 smash-hit was a landmark in visual style and creativity in animation. Along with great humor, voice cast and heartwarming message, The Lego Movie started a major franchise for the Lego brand, including the successful Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie.
Five years later, it’s time to return to the characters who started it all.
Set five years after the events of Taco Tuesday and the Duplo invaders at the end of The Lego Movie, the city of Bricksburg has been turned into a post apocalyptic wasteland. Emmet (Chris Pratt) pretends everything is still awesome, unlike everyone else living in the new reality. When a new invader named Sweet Mayhem (Stephanie Beatriz) comes and kidnaps all his friends including Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks), Emmet must go into space and rescue them.
Despite the fact that this is a teaser, it’s enough to start assembling the hype train for this sequel going into next year. Featuring the returning voice work of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett as Batman, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Channing Tatum as Superman and newcomers Tiffany Haddish and Stephanie Beatriz.
Looking at the trailer, despite Emmet’s positive attitude, the remaining citizens of Bricksburg don’t believe that for a minute as they struggle to survive in the wasteland that was once their fair brick-built city. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more about what happened in between these movies.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part bursts onto screen (including 3D) on February 8, 2019.
