The Fourth of July. A time for cookouts, family/friends, and fireworks. If you are a cinema fan, it could be time to watch one of your favorite films before lighting up fireworks or sparklers in the night sky. Depending on how you feel about this holiday, some films that embody what this holiday is viewed by a person. Here is my list of movies that I believe are perfect for the Fourth of July.
The Sandlot

If there was a perfect coming-of-age movie of the summer, I haven’t found it yet. Likeable characters enjoying pool days, finding ways to sneak in their first kisses, and bonding over their love of baseball, The Sandlot just feels like a perfect summer day that we all seek to have as children.
Top Gun

What’s more American about fighter jets, shirtless volleyball games, and do I even have to mention the song, Danger Zone? That iconic song alone gets this movie on my list. One of the films that defined Tom Cruise’s career, Top Gun is already expecting a sequel later this year and we’ll see if it lives up to the legacy established 35 years ago?
Captain America: The First Avenger

One of the establishing films of the MCU, Captain America: The First Avenger has Chris Evans playing the shield-wielding titular hero. The comic book embodiment of what America could be – and some say, should be – makes your believe in how good a person can be. Filled with loads of enjoyable camp and the infusion of what makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe special, this is a film to enjoy on this holiday.
Jaws

One of the best summer movies and still one of the scariest to watch. Jaws is a movie that won’t have you clamoring to the beach quickly any time soon, but can watch with friends and have a good time. It’s a movie I try to watch every year in the summer; especially around this holiday. I mean, what’s wrong with guys trying to save summer from the threat of a giant shark?
Independence Day

Come on now. You knew I couldn’t forget this film. Independence Day, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, crystalized Will Smith’s transition into a box office movie star. Displaying his charisma as the fighter pilot who thwarts an alien invasion of Earth, helped launch this film as a box office hit that has lasted the test of time. Although the sequel was less than enjoyable, you can always depend on the original to reignite your love of disaster movies.
Are there any movies that I’m forgetting? What films do you think should be included in a list of movies to watch during this holiday? I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!
