Walt Disney Pictures streak of live-action remakes continues next year with the retelling of the 1941 animated classic, Dumbo.
From Walt Disney Pictures, Dumbo tells the story of a young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly, helps save a struggling circus. But when the circus plans a new venture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer.
For a teaser trailer, this movie does a good job of reintroducing Dumbo to a new generation that didn’t see the animated version that inspires this reintroduction. Seeing Dumbo take flight before the trailer cuts to black is just a display of the magic this film could have. Dumbo’s story is one of acceptance, no matter your appearance and that you can reach your full potential. The cast includes Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Danny DeVito, Alan Arkin, and Lucy DeVito.
Considering this adaptation is directed by Tim Burton, don’t be surprised if this film takes a dark turn at some point, but as long as the original message is not lost. With Walt Disney Pictures successful reboots such as The Jungle Book and last year’s Beauty and the Beast, this could be a continuation of that success.
Dumbo flies into theaters on March 29, 2019.
