I wasn’t exposed to their music until my college days. I had wonderful hallmates and roommates that opened my pop culture world to show how much I wasn’t seeing. With classic anthems such as “We Are The Champions” and “We Will Rock You”, they have cemented their place in music history.
But what about the story behind the music? What about the story of their front man, Freddy Mercury?
The talented Rami Malek (USA Network’s Mr. Robot) takes on the role of Freddy Mercury, Queen’s lead vocalist. Judging from this official trailer, it’s going to be difficult for any audience to not sing during this whole film.
And who wouldn’t be okay singing a Queen song?
This biopic has had a lot of background noise during its production, especially on who would play Mercury. The role was initially given to Sasha Baron Cohen but he left the project after creative differences with surviving members of the band and producers. Rami Malek was ultimately selected while the directors chair also switched around as Bryan Singer started the work but was fired after reports of clashing with the cast. Dexter Fletcher took over to finish principal photography. Who will get ultimate credit as director is unknown at this time.
There are rumors that this film will not touch on Mercury’s bisexuality and be absent of his AIDS diagnosis. I hope it’s not true, but we’ll find out in the final product.
Bohemian Rhapsody will rock you on November 2.
