It’s time to dust off those old Hogwarts robes and wands. The call has gone out to return to the Wizarding World as the first action-packed teaser trailer for the Fantastic Beasts sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, has been released.
From the flying overhead shot to the familiar site of Hogwarts, it feels like viewers are returning home. After only a mention in the previous movie, it’s wonderful to see the castle again for the first time since the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. What follows is a darker tone in comparison to its predecessor.
The second of a planned five film saga shifts the action from New York to Paris as Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) teams with his favorite Hogwarts professor, Albus Dumbledore (younger version played by a charming looking Jude Law) to hunt down the dark wizard Gellart Grindlewald (Johnny Depp).
While there isn’t much of the villain shown, Grindlewald – who we see with long hair, gaunt skin, and guarded by two wand-holding aurors – looks as though he’s had a tough time in a wizarding prison. We’re also introduced to several new characters, including Newt’s ex-love Leta Lestrange, played by Zoe Kravitz. She joins the returning cast members from 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, including Newt’s American love interest Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), and her love interest, our favorite muggle Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler).
For a teaser, I certainly feel more excited about this sequel now. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald apparates into theaters November 16, 2018.
